Monsoon to withdraw from parts of Himachal in two to three days: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Saturday predicted that the conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Himachal Pradesh over the next two to three days.

The IMD also predicted withdrawal from parts of Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the death toll from this year’s monsoon devastation in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 430, with 487 people injured and 46 still missing.

The latest state government report shows widespread disruption of roads, power supply, and water schemes. As of Saturday evening, 373 roads remained blocked, including two national highways (NH-03 and NH-503A). A total of 43 distribution transformers (DTRs) were disrupted, and 145 water supply schemes were affected across districts.

Mandi reported the heaviest losses with 128 roads blocked, 11 DTRs disrupted, and 83 water supply schemes affected.

Kullu followed with 109 roads closed, including stretches along NH-03 and NH-305, where movement is currently restricted to light motor vehicles at several points. Shimla district reported 25 blocked roads, while Chamba recorded 17. Kangra saw 34 roads disrupted, with Dharamshala and Palampur among the worst-hit subdivisions.

The other districts also reported damage: Bilaspur (14 roads), Hamirpur (6), Kinnaur (4), Sirmaur (10), Solan (13), and Una (13). In Kinnaur, Nichar and Pooh subdivisions faced multiple road closures, while in Solan, Nalagarh and Arki were among the affected areas.
