The Mohali Municipal Corporation’s “tehbazari” anti-encrochment team continued its campaign for the second consecutive day, conducting a major crackdown across multiple sectors. The operation, led by Superintendent Mandeep Singh, targeted illegal street vendors, hawkers, and roadside eateries in Phase 9, 10, 11, Sector 66, and on Airport Road.

During the drive, over 23 street carts and dhabas were removed, and their goods were seized and loaded onto MC trucks. A team of more than 25 officials from the Municipal Corporation carried out the operation.

Illegal encroachments on city roads particularly in Phase 10 and Phase 11 have been a long-standing issue, often leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.

In a recent House meeting, the issue was raised by councillors, demanding strict action against unauthorised occupations to ensure smooth traffic movement and civic discipline.

The MC also offers self-employment loans to street vendors under various government schemes. However, the officials pointed out that some beneficiaries misuse these facilities by establishing permanent encroachments, causing public obstruction.

Commenting on the operation, municipal councillor Anuradha Anand said, “The ongoing anti-encroachment drive by the corporation is a commendable step toward maintaining city order. Such actions must continue to ensure relief and convenience for residents.”
