Mohali Deputy Mayor to GMADA: Connect sewer line now or face legal action
As frustration mounts, locals have hinted at large-scale protests if GMADA fails to act.

Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has asked GMADA to provide the long-pending sewer line connection near Sector 65-A Bulk Market. The sewer was meant to be linked with the main line of sectors 76–80 in 2021, yet no progress has been made.
“I have personally written to the Chief Administrator of GMADA warning of strict action. This indifference cannot continue,” Bedi asserted.
The issue has left shopkeepers and residents in misery for over four years. Bedi slammed GMADA for its negligence, saying that despite repeated letters from the Municipal Commissioner, officials have remained unresponsive.
The delay has forced the Municipal Corporation to spend lakhs annually on repeated sewer cleaning operations an exercise Bedi termed a “sheer waste of public money”.
Residents say sewage overflows have turned roads into pools of dirty water, spreading foul smell and health hazards. Shopkeepers complain that customers avoid the market, causing heavy financial losses.
Calling the inaction a case of “serious negligence”, Bedi warned GMADA not to test the patience of citizens. “If the connection is not provided immediately, I will be compelled to initiate strict legal action, including moving court,” he said.
