Mohali court rejects anticipatory bail of accused in Rs 32 lakh flat fraud case

The case was registered by the Kharar police under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.The Mohali district court has delivered a significant ruling, with the court of the Additional Sessions Judge rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of accused Gurmeet Singh in a high-value property fraud case.

According to the complainant, she wanted to buy a flat in Mohali for her daughter’s better education. Her husband came in contact with Vijay Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, and Gursevak Singh, who later introduced him to Gurmeet Singh. The accused allegedly showed them flat no. 348-A in Sector 115, Gunjan Land Developers, and finalised the deal at Rs 32 lakh.
The complainant paid the amount in instalments. However, when the time for registry came, the accused and his associates started making excuses. Later, it was discovered that the same flat had already been sold to another party.
The public prosecutor argued in court that “serious allegations are pending against the accused and custodial interrogation is necessary”. However, the defence counsel claimed that Gurmeet was innocent and ready to cooperate with the investigation.
After hearing both sides, the court observed that the allegations were of a grave nature and, therefore, anticipatory bail could not be granted. Consequently, Gurmeet’s bail plea was dismissed.
