Named as an accused in the FIR on the complaint of Akali activist Harjinder Singh, local Congress MLA Balbir Sidhu on Monday threatened to launch a mass public agitation if the names of “innocent persons implicated in the case” were not dropped in four days. “I want an independent investigation from any agency outside Punjab, with whom I will fully cooperate,” said Sidhu, accusing the Punjab Police of ‘bias’. Claiming innocence at a press conference here, the MLA produced documents to prove that he was in Delhi when the shootout took place and insisted that his brother and the Baliyali sarpanch,an accused, were attending a wedding in Zirakpur.
