A 42-year-old woman was found dead in the forest area near a cow shed in Sector 45 here today. The woman had been reportedly missing for the last four days. Mystery shrouds the death of the woman even as infuriated colony residents blamed the “lackadaisical attitude” of the police towards their complaint.

The body of Vimla Devi,a resident of Colony Number 5,bore a deep injury mark on her neck. Besides, there were three injury marks on her face. The deceased was clad in a pink suit and a shawl was wrapped around her neck. As per preliminary investigations, the police have ruled out rape, but said the exact picture would be clear only after the postmortem. Her body was spotted by Aslam, her neighbour, around 5.15 pm.

Nand Lal,husband of the victim, said his wife had complaint of stomachache around 3:30 in the morning on December 3. She went to the public toilet and Nand Lal accompanied her. Nand Lal,who works as a lab attendant in the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32,said he never saw her come out of the toilet.

“She went to toilet and suddenly disappeared in the dark. I informed the police but all they did was to register a DDR and no further effort was made to trace her,” said Nand Lal adding that he feared she had been kidnapped. Infuriated with the police inaction, the residents of Colony Number 5 raised anti-police slogans and also jammed the road near Colony Number 5 Light Point.

SHO Sector-34 police station Uday Pal Singh said the police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime. As case under various Sections of 302,201 and 34 of the IPC has been registered in Sector 34 police station.

The body was later shifted to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 and will be handed over to family after postmortem. She is survived by husband and two children — a girl aged 14 years and a boy aged 12 years. “A missing report was lodged on December 3 and we have been investigating. The exact picture will be clear after post-mortem report,” said Inspector Uday Pal Singh.
