Minor falls prey to monkey menace

The victim, Harry, was rushed to PGI where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

In a bizarre accident, a 17-year-old resident of Sector 22 died after a sharp cement shed piece fell on his head while a monkey was trying to open the lid of a water tank on the roof of a shop at Shastri Market, Sector 22.

The victim, Harry, was rushed to PGI where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday when he was working at a garment store, where he was employed. Harry’s employers rushed him to the hospital.

He was standing near a carton of clothes which he was unpacking. There were some monkeys on the rooftop which were trying to open the water tank.

“We usually keep something heavy on the tank lids. Otherwise, monkeys open these and either drink water or take a dip,” said shopkeeper Ramesh.

Some monkeys tried to open the tank on Saturday and a sharp cement shed piece fell on Harry’s head and got stuck.

“He had been working there for the last three years. He had studied till Class VII,” said his mother Jyoti. She added that her elder son came home rushing and took her father Paramjit along.
