Mayorship to see triangular contest

The Mayoral elections this year are likely to see a contest between three candidates vying for the post of Mayor.

The Mayoral elections this year are likely to see a contest between three candidates vying for the post of Mayor. The candidates for the posts of the Mayor,deputy mayor and senior deputy mayor filed their nominations today at the Municipal Corporation.

BJP

Slogans of ‘Jai shri ram’ reverberated in the Municipal Corporation as candidates filed their nominations. Accompanied by leaders including president of the city unit Sanjay Tandon,Harmohan Dhawan and Yash Pal Mahajan,the candidates came to the room of the Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwach.

While Rajesh Gupta filed nomination for the post of Mayor,Anil Dubey is senior deputy mayor hopeful and Sarita Devi filed her nomination for deputy mayor post. Two sets of papers were filed by each candidate.

Congress

Candidates accompanied by party president B B Bahl and Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal were the next in line. Ravinder Pal Singh,who is the candidate for the post of Mayor from the party,asked his supporters not to garland him. Kuldip Singh filed nominations for senior deputy mayor and Sheela Phool Singh for deputy mayor.

Independent

As the word spread that Congress councillor Jagjit Singh Kang was planning to file nominations as an Independent candidate,it created a buzz in the political fraternity. The Congress leaders could be seen trying to tide over the situation and convincing Kang not to rebel.
