Mayor Malik inaugurates long overdue bridge,bus queue shelter

Foundation of the bridge was laid in 2006 and tenders were invited six times in just one year.

Mayor Raj Bala Malik inaugurated the newly constructed bridge near the housing board roundabout along with a stainless steel bus queue shelter in Manimajra.

The construction of the bridge had been facing hindrances for the past few years. The foundation of the bridge was laid in 2006 an tenders were invited six times during a one year period. However no tender was received. In this period new buildings came up in the area and a change in the population and vehicular traffic was witnessed. A need was felt for a fresh survey of the area.

After several unsuccessful attempts,construction was started in December 2010. The contractor however left the work midway. The civic body then decided to complete the work on its own. The bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.

The Municipal Corporation also completed the construction of a bus queue shelter at Manimajra. Constructed at a cost of Rs 51.50 lakh,the seating capacity of the bus queue shelter will be for around 120 people.

Among those who were present on the occasion were councillors Gurcharan Dass Kala and Des Raj Gupta. Chief Engineer S S Bida and Superintending Engineer (B&R) Mukesh Anand along with other officials were also present.
