Buoyed by a superb century by Manpreet (132 runs),Patiala defeated Mohali on the basis of first innings lead in their league match of the Punjab Inter-District U-16 Cricket Tournament for ML Markakan Trophy played at C ground,Mohali,to march into the semi-final stage to be played next week.

Patiala finished their first innings with a score of 412 for 9 in 95 overs and won the match on the basis of first innings lead. Manpreet’s innings was studded with 18 hits to the boundaries while he was ably assisted by Karan Kalia who played a superb knock of 106 runs. Kalia’s innings was studded with 11 boundaries and four towering sixes. Vickey Sharma contributed 40 runs while Kanwar Pal scored 36 runs. For Mohali,Jasinder Singh claimed six wickets for 144 runs while Bhanu Pratap claimed three wickets for 149 runs. Earlier Mohali had made 216 for 9 in their first innings.

Chandigarh pips Ludhiana

In another league match of the day,Chandigarh defeated Ludhiana on the basis of first innings lead in a match played at MGM School,Ludhiana. In reply to Chandigarh’s total of 482 in first innings,Ludhiana could score 294 for 8 in 95 overs. Chirag Maria continued his fine form and hit 83. Gaurav Sharma,Gurpreet and Sunny Pandey played an innings of 30 each. For Chandigarh,Udit Hari Mehta was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets for 64 runs while veer Karan Goel claimed two wickets for 102 runs. Kshitij and Pankaj Rawat claimed one wicket each. Chandigarh were 37 for 1 in their second innings at the end of the match.

Prince bowls Mukatsar to win

PRINCE Pal Singh claimed five wickets for just 19 runs as Mukatsar (Zone-A) continued their fine form in the tournament and defeated Jalandhar on the basis of the first innings lead in a match played at Burlton park on Thursday. In reply to Mukatsar’s first innings total of 240,Jalandhar were bundled out for a paltry score of 118 in 51.1 overs.

Bhupinder was the top scorer for Jalandhar playing a knock of 73 runs while A Rathaur contributed 17 runs. For Mukatsar,Prince Pal Singh claimed 5 wickets for 19 runs while Jagmeet claimed three wickets for 26 runs. Harjot Singh claimed two wickets for 45 runs. Mukatsar were 150 for 5 in their second innings when the match ended. Sherbaz made 78 while Harjeet remained unbeaten on 32. For Jalandhar,Kamaljot claimed three wickets.
