A man,who held a child captive and looted a house in Sector 51 on Monday afternoon,was arrested later in the day.
Around 3 pm,Jitendar Pal,wearing a mask,entered the house and held eight-year-old Oshin captive and started searching for valuables.
After some time,when his mother Shabina returned home from work,Pal allegedly hit her. Shabina had a scuffle with him and managed to remove his mask but he flashed a gun and fled with the stolen goods. He was arrested later from his home.
Pal,who lived in the neighbourhood,was a drug addict and a frequent visitor to the house,said a police officer.
Oshin told the police that when he came home,a man wearing a mask knocked at the door saying that he had come to deliver a letter.
When Oshin open the door,the accused caught hold of him and held him captive,threatening that he would kill him if he made any noise.
Robbers gang busted,five held
The UT police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers who fell into the police net after they robbed a rickshaw puller of his valuables at gunpoint at Sector 23 on Sunday night. The accused were identified as Sohan Lal of Daddumajra Colony,Karamjit Singh,Ravi Kumar,Davinder Singh and Pardeep Kumar,all from Sector 24C.
The gang,which the police said was also involved in vehicle thefts,was caught by a police party of the Sector-17 police station. A police party patrolling the area near Grapes Garden in Sector 23 heard the cries of rickshaw puller Sant Ram.
When approached,Ram complained he had been robbed by some youths. The police personnel then chased the accused,who were running towards Sector 24. A police party at the Sector-24 post was also alerted.
The accused were soon nabbed and the stolen items were also recovered from their possession. Besides,two motorcycles (CH 03 R 3421 and CH 03 P 9050) were also recovered after Ravi and Sohan told the police that they had stolen the bikes from near the Empire Store in Sector 17 and from Sector 38. The two were taken into police remand,while the other three have been sent to judicial custody.
