Man held for ‘raping’ widow

The police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of getting her a job. Jasmer Singh (50),a resident of village Raipur Khurd of Mohali,was arrested after a case was registered against him at the Sector 34 police station.

The victim,a widow,has alleged that the accused threatened her and raped her in a hotel in Sector 45 Chandigarh on July 29.

According to police,the accused,who got the number of victim from an unidentified source,lured her by making the false promise of living together and getting her a good job. The medical examination of the victim confirmed rape. The accused has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
