A man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly raping a minor girl in July 2017. The accused, a resident of Barotiwala in Baddi was avoiding arrest for the last three months. The victim in her FIR had alleged that the accused abducted and raped her at a hotel which falls under the jurisdiction of Sector 34 police station. In her complaint to police, the victim also alleged that the accused had tried to give her some poisonous substance.
Police said several raids were conducted to nab the accused but in vain. Finally, he was arrested following a tip-off from a local bus stand, police added. The accused, who is a labourer, was remanded to judicial custody. A case against him was registered at Sector 3 police station. An FIR was registered under charges of rape and some relevant section of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses(POCSO)Act 2012.
