Man flogged,cops fail to take action

Reflecting the negligence on the part of the Panchkula police,a 20-year-old resident of Abhaypur village,Ved Prakash,was allegedly beaten up and tortured by a group of men on Sunday.

Reflecting the negligence on the part of the Panchkula police,a 20-year-old resident of Abhaypur village,Ved Prakash,was allegedly beaten up and tortured by a group of men on Sunday. Despite the victims efforts to get a case registered against the accused,the police have failed to take any action. The victim alleged that a group of canter union workers picked him up from his shop in the early hours of Sunday and thrashed him claiming that he was a thief.

Around 3.30 am on Sunday while I sleeping at my cycle repair shop,Panchkula Canter Union President Resham Singh along with a group of 20 workers abducted me. They took me to their office in the Industrial Area where they assaulted me with rods and shoes. They said I was a thief, said Ved Prakash.

He added that the accused freed him on Monday afternoon.

The victim said inspite of his efforts to get a complaint registered against the accused,his plea had fallen on deaf ears.

Meanwhile,Resham Singh denied having thrashed the victim but alleged that his workers had recovered a stolen bicycle from him. It was not me or my workers but the public beat him up as he used to steal cycles and car batteries. I had simply handed him to the Sector-19 police but as he was badly injured,the police asked us to get his medical examination done from from the Sector-6 General Hospital, added Resham Singh.

While Sector-19 police post in-charge Lakshmi Chand denied having any knowledge of the incident,Superintendent of Police Amitabh Dhillon said,The canter union members claimed that Ved Prakash had committed theft for which he was beaten up but no one can take law in his/her hands. The moment we receive a written complaint from the victim,we will take action against the accused.
