Man dies after falling from lift,automobile firm booked

This happened due to a faulty system in the lift in which the outer doors sometimes remain open.

Mohali police have booked Hind Motors Ltd,an automobile dealer company,following the death of an electrician working in their office after falling from a faulty lift.

The deceased has been identified as Ajay Kumar (50),a resident of Hallomajra,who had been associated with the company as an electrician for the past several years.

According to police,Kumar had gone to the company’s office in Industrial Area Phase 2 on Wednesday evening. While trying to come down from the lift,he fell down from the first floor into the basement.

This happened due to a faulty system in the lift in which the outer doors sometimes remain open.

Kumar,who received head injuries,was rushed to the hospital but died on the way and was declared brought dead.

“The current lift system is risky and has posed dangers several times before. Even I was about to fall down once,” said an employee who works with the company.

After Kumar’s death,the company tried to settle the matter by offering compensation to his family. However,they refused the compensation and filed a complaint instead.

A case of death by negligence under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the company at the Police Station Phase 1.
