The cast is chiefly Indian, but Deepa Mehta’s long-awaited film Midnight’s Children may first have a Canada release this October. The film,a screen adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s popular novel of the same name,is now in post-production stages and the filmmaker is hoping to premiere it at either the Toronto or the Venice film festival. The film,to do full justice to the book, has been made on a grand scale at 60 locations and features more than 100 different characters. It is being said that the very scene that shows the birth of the hero,Saleem Sinai, required the crew to shoot with over a dozen newborns under two weeks of age.
