Majitha has become the first tehsil of the state to have fully computerised administrative functioning. While inaugurating the modern administrative complex,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said,With all records available online, any land or revenue-related work would now be just a click away.
Declaring the Fard Kendra a computerised land record kiosk open,Sukhbir,accompanied by Member of Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu and local legislator Bikram Singh Majithia,said rest of the 153 tehsils in the state would follow suit in the next one year.
Earlier,accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Rajmohinder Singh Majithia,he inaugurated projects worth Rs 21 crore,including a 220-KV power grid at Majitha and a 66-KVA power grid at Nag Kalan,built by the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB). Though he evaded direct queries on the prevailing power crises,blaming the shortage on the rising demand,he said work on various power projects was being speeded up.
On administrative reforms,he said Rs 115 crore was being spent to interlink all tehsils to enable farmers to get fard anywhere in Punjab. On other reforms,he said the commission set up for the purpose would give its report in February and its recommendations would be implemented by the end of this year.
Sukhbir said the government was in the process of carving out State Special Guards (SSG) on the lines of National Security Guards for quick response to any terror act. We will not allow terrorism to raise its head in the state, he said,adding that people should not worry over isolated incidents as the state police were competent to deal with any situation.
He said the proposal to have quarterly appraisal of all districts police chiefs was being implemented so that officers were made accountable to the public. On the rising menace of drugs,the Deputy CM said a war against drugs had been launched by the police.
On the proposal of offering a years extension to employees retiring this year on attaining the age of 59,Sukhbir said the move was a stop-gap arrangement to overcome acute shortage of staff. He also addressed a public rally where Sidhu announced Rs 2 crore for Majitha from his MPLAD Fund.
