Magisterial probe ordered; SIT formed

Topi,3 others sent to 3-day police custody; injured gangster out of danger,say PGI docs

Mohali District Magistrate Parveen Kumar,on the recommendation of Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar,on Saturday evening ordered a magisterial inquiry into the police encounter at Sunny Enclave in Chandigarh that left two gangsters dead and another seriously injured. Kharar SDM Rajeev Kumar Gupta has been assigned the probe and asked to submit a report soon,confirmed the DM.

Meanwhile,the Mohali SSP constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP (Detective) Pritam Singh,to conduct a probe into the acts and conducts of the infamous Topi gang to unravel their past and solve the cases in which they were involved.

Four gangsters: Topi,his younger brother Rohit Kumar,Babban (all from Amritsar) and Ranjit Singh alias Rocky of Tilak Nagar,Delhi,were remanded in Mohali police’s custody for three days by Kharar Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate K K Goel,before whom they were produced on Saturday evening under heavy security.

While the condition of injured gangster Mohammad Abbas alias Bilas Bhatt of Anantnag in Jammu was reported to be out of danger at Chandigarh PGIMER,the bodies of Luv Kumar,who was Topi’s cousin from Amritsar,and Deepak Kumar of Pathankot were handed over to their respective families after postmortem was conducted that continued at Kharar Civil Hospital till late evening. Two bullets were recovered from Luv’s body but not before getting it X-rayed thrice; Deepak’s body was badly punctured and had no bullets inside,revealed doctors who conducted postmortem on the bodies.
