More than 43,000 people have applied for just over 800 vacancies for clerks in lower courts of Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh. Against a total of 804 vacancies,43,012 applications have been received by the Punjab and Haryana High Court,from among others,post graduates,self employed and government servants for the posts.
This is the first time that the Punjab and Haryana High Court is recruiting for the lower courts of Punjab and Haryana. Till now,the lower courts used to appoint clerks,peons and other staff.
The high court had received a number of complaints in the past pertaining to illegal appointments. Two judges from the court had even passed scathing judgments against the senior most judge of Haryana for making fraudulent and illegal appointments of court staff. The said Judges name was recommended for elevation to high court Judgeship during the tenure of the then Chief Justice Vijender Kumar Jain.
While for lower courts of Haryana the vacancies are 500,for Punjab the total number of vacancies is 297. In Chandigarh,there is a total of seven vacancies for the post of clerks. To ensure complete transparency,the high court has evolved a system wherein the applicant has to apply online,fill a form and deposit it with the court.
The High Court will hold examination followed by interviews for the candidates. After completing the recruitment process,the selected candidates will be posted to the respective lower courts.
