Look Who’s Singing

“Poochte hain log hamesha ye sawaal, kahan tha,kya kar raha tha, main itne saal.

Ashmit Patel’s back and he is in a mood to sing

“Poochte hain log hamesha ye sawaal, kahan tha,kya kar raha tha, main itne saal. Something or the other just kept falling out of place,a leaked MMS,blame and shame, slapped on my face…” Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel pours his heart out,but this time,he’s got music in the background. The actor is back from a self-imposed sabbatical and is in a mood to tell his story, his way — through a song.

Patel released his song on the internet a few days ago on YouTube,Google videos and other free video sites. “This is not exactly a musical venture or a career detour,it’s a creative expression and I found music the best way to say and bare it all,” Patel confesses, adding that he’s been through a rough patch. Family troubles,an MMS scandal,a broken affair with Murder co-star Mallika Sherawat,a series of box office duds — he has been swimming against the tide.

“Usually people who hit rock bottom turn to drugs, anger and violence, revel in self-pity and get all negative, but it has been the opposite for me,” he says. “I’ve been through a lot of pain and have always been judged for my silence. They say,if you relive your past, you deal with it. This song and its upcoming video is actually a medium for me to express my true self,be it creatively or emotionally.”

“The song marks a new beginning for me. Actually, music has always been a mood lift for me. Songs carry memories. I remember that the first time I drove a car,George Michael’s Love was playing and it’s still my favourite,” he says. For the musical foray,Patel’s teamed up with IshQ Bector, the mad-max music import from Canada, while the video is being directed by Anubhav Anand of the film Perfect Mismatch fame, and the lyrics have been penned by Anand,Patel and Sonny Ravan. “They’ve been my friends for ages,so who better to pen it all,” says Patel. The actor is also looking forward to his forthcoming releases,a patriotic film set in the 1940s called the The Flag and an international film called Florida Road — both scheduled for early next year. And there are rumours that he might also enter the house of the Bigg Boss. “Well,if they approach me,I’d have fun on the show,” he says.
