Demanding bribe to repair a powerline cost two linemen their jobs,as the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vittaran Nigam (UHBVN) suspended them on Monday. The UHBVN acted on a complaint submitted by residents of Group Housing Society- 22,Sector 20,to the managing director.

Giving information about the case,UHBVN officials said the lineman,Lal Singh, had allegedly demanded a cheque of Rs 4,000 from residents to repair a technical snag, which had affected power supply in many houses in the society. In their complaint, residents alleged that while Singh and his assistant Raghubir Singh rectified the fault in society no 23,they refused to act on their complaint of breakdown on June 7,which they had submitted on June 8. The residents told MD Arun Kumar that Singh demanded Rs 4,000 from them to repair the fault, which included labour cost of Rs 1,000.

Residents further alleged that both the linemen came to the housing society on June 9 and restored the power supply after receiving the cheque. They also showed a receipt signed by Singh. Arun Kumar directed the executive engineer to suspend the linemen with immediate effect and also to file a chargesheet against them after thoroughly investigating the matter.
