Legal training session for UILS students

The State Legal Services Authority,Chandigarh in association with University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) organised a para-legal volunteer training programme for students on Thursday.

The State Legal Services Authority,Chandigarh in association with University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) organised a para-legal volunteer training programme for students on Thursday.

With an objective of attaining community outreach literacy,by spreading awareness about basic rights,the programme was inaugurated by Director,UILS Professor Sangita Bhalla.

Students were equipped with handling cases of the poor by giving them advice on legal matters.

In certain cases the alternate dispute resolution mechanism was resorted to. Students also participated in activities organised by State Legal Services Authority,including conducting surveys in slum areas and spreading legal literacy in schools.

Also,lectures were delivered by the Law Officer,State Legal Services Authority,Rajeshwar Singh. Later,in an interactive session,students were given case vignettes to discuss.

Lecture on poetics of Guru Nanak Bani at PU

A special lecture was organised at the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies at Guru Tegh Bahadur Bhawan,Panjab University (PU) on Thursday. Professor Satinder Singh,eminent Punjabi literature scholar and former chairman of Kuka Namdhari Chair,Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar,spoke on the subject of “Poetics of Guru Nanak Bani”.

Professor Singh stressed upon the conceptual and philosophical aspects in the light of re-conceptualisation of the term ‘poetics’ in terms of Gurbani and literary scholarship.

During the lecture,attended by many students,teachers and research students,he claimed the Guru Granth Sahib’s religion had all the potentials of being established as a global religion.
