Late night check: 11 liquor vends found violating Excise Policy

The Department of Excise and Taxation conducted surprise checks at various liquor vends late on Friday night during which around eleven liquor vends were found to be violating provisions of the Excise Policy.

The Department of Excise and Taxation conducted surprise checks at various liquor vends late on Friday night during which around eleven liquor vends were found to be violating provisions of the Excise Policy. Nine liquor vends including two in Kajheri,five in Manimajra,one in Transport Area,Sector 26,and one in Mauli Jagran were found to be transacting business even after the official closure time of 11 pm. Two other liquor vends at Behlana Airport Chowk were also booked for various violations of Excise Rules. Action has been initiated against the violators and after an opportunity of being heard,they will be liable to punitive action under the provisions of the Excise law.

Two held with illicit liquor

: The local police arrested two persons and claimed to have recovered 450 cases of illicit liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh only,which they had allegedly smuggled into Punjab. Nayagaon SHO Sub-Inspector Rajpal Singh said that acting on a tip-off,a liquor vend in Nayagaon was raided from where 250 boxes of whisky and 200 boxes of beer were found. While two vend employees Rajesh Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh were arrested,the owners Satish Kumar,Harmesh Kumar and Rajinder Rana are still at large,said the SHO,while adding that a case under Sections 61,1,14 of the Excise Act has been lodged.
