Lasara drain nears danger mark;villagers panic

Panic spread on Friday in a number of villages including Pathrala,Kutti,Jassi Bagh Wali and Kishanpura located alongside the Lasara drain in this district after water started rising in the drain dangerously.

The district administration deputed a number of officials of Drainage department at vulnerable points to check any untoward incident. The drain,which carries water and sewerage waste from multiple sources,was believed to be in spate due to rains.

Earlier,the drain extend up to Haryana,but the state government had de-notified the land through which it passed for giving the land to farmers. A bund has been created on the side that falls in Haryana,and as a result the rising water put villagers on Punjab side on a tight leash.

Bathinda SDM K P S Mahi,who visited the vulnerable points,said situation were under control and drainage department officials had been deputed to act swiftly in case things threatened to go out of control.
