KXIP Red and KXIP Green record wins

Riding high on Arjit Gupta's blazing knock of 65,KXIP Red recorded an eight-run win over KXIP Blue in the first match of the Kings XI Punjab Cup II being orgainsed ahead of the third edition of the Indian Premier League that played at Sector 16 cricket stadium in Chandigarh on Saturday.

It was quite obvious that the team winning the toss would want to bowl first in the cold and foggy conditions. KXIP Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite difficult conditions for batting,Arjit Gupta smashed brilliant 65 (2×6,3×4) to help KXIP Red set up a target of 144 in 20 overs. They lost eight wickets. Apart from Arjit,Gurkeerat Singh chipped in with useful knock of 23. From KXIP Red,medium-pacer Bharat Loomba took three wickets giving away 25 runs. In reply to the total,KXIP Blue team’s chase was bolstered by Gaurav Goel (37) and Reetinder Sodhi (31). Despite being on track,KXIP Blue faltered in the death overs. Skipper Reetinder Sodhi’s costly run out and a maiden last over by Amanpreet Singh changed the result of the match. Karanveer Singh bolwed well to pick two wickets. Arjit’s 65 runs won him the man of the match award.

KXIP Green triumphs

IN the second match of the day,despite a good knock by Saumick Chatterjee (39) and an impressive performance by all-rounder Bipul Sharma (34 no,3 for 19) KXIP Yellow lost to KXIP Green by six wickets played at DAV Senior Secondary School Sector 8. Batting first,KXIP Red posted a small total of 113 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. In reply to the total,KXIP Green achieved the target in 19.1 overs. R S Dogra (30) and Nitin Saini (28 no) were the main scorers for the winning side. Bipul Sharma won the man of the match award.

KXIP Red will take on KXIP Silver at DAV Senior Secondary School,Sector 8,while

KXIP Green will lock horns with KXIP Green Blue on Sunday at Sector 16 cricket stadium in Chandigarh.
