Parties contesting the Panjab University students union election are still to decide on alliances for the polls,but most have declared their presidential nominees.

Chandigarh Newsline took stock of all the candidates and brought out what the buzz is on campus about them,and the promises they are making to the university students.

The demands of all the parties remain the same,more or less,with no dominant issues.

The good old adage of standing beside the students whenever the need arises,is all these parties are promising this time around as well. The campaigning,meanwhile,has so far witnessed only mud-slinging and attempts to ridicule the other. Each of the parties is trying to drive home the point on how and why it would be the best bet.

Heres a quick look at the prospective students president nominees

Presidential Candidate: Arshbir Singh Johal
Department: Law
He promises: Basic amenities and infrastructure to students top his list of promises
Buzz about him: Strong in his own department,if given more days,could attract more votes

SOPU
Presidential Candidate: Rajwinder Singh Aulakh
Department: Law
He promises: Justice to every student for his genuine demand
Buzz about him: Not the most popular,hes depending on the partys name

Presidential Candidate: Deepika Thakur
Department: Environment Sciences andsolid waste management
She promises: To strengthen the women front and fight for the demands of girls in the university
Buzz about her: Besides INSOs own vote bank,she could attract more votes as compared to other two girl students in fray for the presidents post

ABVP
Presidential Candidate: Ashwathy Rajan

Department: Geology
She promises: Violence free university
Buzz about her: Popular only in Science departments

NSUI
Presidential Candidate (Prospective): Geeta
Department: Sociology
She promises: To help girl students and work towards making things transparent between authority and students
Buzz about her: Besides her own department,she could attract votes from other departments,primarily because of her bold image

SOI
Presidential Candidate: Sarabjit Singh
Department: University Institute of Fashion Technology
He promises: More hostels on the campus for the students
Buzz about him: Not very popular outside his own department
