Knotty fare…

By now,they’ve stopped counting the number of films they’ve done together. If David Dhawan calls,Govinda answers. No questions. It’s been like this for years,and this Friday will see the return of Jodi No. 1 with yet another Pati,Patni aur Woh plot in Do Knot Disturb. Needless to say,it’s aloha once again to chaos,confusion and double entendres. Add Riteish Deshmukh to the equation and the comedy circus is bound to run to a full house.

While Govinda is David’s first and last choice for a film,“David and I have always had this good luck charm. We have a history together,” Govinda interacts via a video conference at Reliance Webworld. Looking much younger and fitter than before,the actor feels that a great body does not amount only to six or eight packs. “It’s about the personality,power and energy you exude,people have to feel your presence.” That was deep! But what happens when daughter Narmaddaa steps into the limelight? “Exactly what’s happened to Anil Kapoor and Sonam…work carries on,” shoots Govinda. Quiz him and David about the love triangle they keep re-inventing,and both feel that the ‘doosri aurat’ always adds more masala to the story. “Kahani main twist zaroori hai bhai!” laughs David. Move to the ‘two-in-one’ acts of Riteish,and the actor says he’s had enough of ‘girlie’ roles on screen. “Everytime I’ve played a girl,I end up in tears…getting waxed is a pain! I’m pretty happy playing a guy,” right now,he’s ecstatic about his part and sharing screen space with Govinda. “The circle of comedy for me was never complete till I’d done one film with Davidji and Govinda,and now that I’ve done one,I feel great. However,there is hunger for more!” he quickly runs through his character in the film – an ordinary boy who wants to make a quick buck. “And obviously,in an ideal world,one earns it the wrong way,the naughty way which lands him in trouble,and so begins a series of problems…” David cuts him short,“c’mon,we can’t disclose the whole story!” Okay,but what about the casting coup – two Miss Universes in one film? “I’ve done films with Lara and Sushmita,and they

fitted the role in this one,” says David.

That said,how did the boys manage to match up to the endlessly tall,beauty queens? “Well,we looked up to them,in sajda,and they looked down,nazrein jhula ke,” Govinda and Riteish crack a good one. Ha ha,but wait a minute,doesn’t it bother that Wake Up Sid is releasing the same day as Do Knot Disturb on October 2? “Not at all. I see what kind of films are running,what’s my audience like and then plan accordingly. Wake Up Sid is a different genre,and India is a vast country…I’ll have my audience and share,” says a confident David who assures us a Partner Part II. As for Do Knot Disturb,there is a possibility of a sequel. “Maybe,we’ll title it Dolly,Dolly,Dolly,” laughs Govinda,cracking a joke after a line in Don Knot Disturb.

Politics is out,and Govinda’s back to his karam bhoomi – acting. “Next up is Mani Ratnam’s Ravan in which I play a a very knowledgeable person,” tells Govinda. In the meantime,after checking out a variety of characters,Riteish’s looking forward to some seriousness in RGV’s Rann,romance in Jaane Kahan Se,complete entertainment in Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin and riot of laughs in Houseful.
