(Representational Photo) The Khanna police on Monday busted an illegal weapon supply module with the arrest of three persons, including the main supplier from Madhya Pradesh.
Police said that a total of 15 illegal pistols, 12 cartridges, five magazines and 10 grams of heroin were recovered from them.
Among 15 weapons recovered by the police, 12 were 32 bore pistols, two were 315 bore pistols and one 9 mm pistol, said Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal.
Police said that initially one Vishal Kumar (26) of Jagat Colony, Khanna, was arrested on September 4, after he tried to flee the spot seeing the police party on Lalheri road. On checking, 10 gm of heroin was recovered from him. An FIR under Sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered against him at Khanna city police station. Following his interrogation, police recovered two illegal pistols and added Sections 25/54/59 of Arms Act to the FIR.
Ludhiana range IG Kaustubh Sharma said that Vishal further revealed that he procured illegal weapons from Veerpal Singh alias Toni of Khargaon, Madhya Pradesh. His name was also nominated to the FIR and he was arrested from MP after court issued his arrest warrant.
“Veerpal Singh is into the business of manufacturing and supplying illegal weapons. Police recovered 11 illegal pistols from his possession. Some two months ago, his relative Takdeer Singh was also arrested by Khanna police,” said the IG.
Vishal is already facing trial in seven criminal cases, including five under the Arms Act, while two previous cases were registered against Veerpal Singh.
Later, police also arrested Mohammad Yashin – of Moradabad (UP) – living in Lalru village of Khanna, and recovered two illegal pistols, five magazines and 12 cartridges from him. A separate FIR against him was registered at Khanna Sadar police station under the Arms Act.
SSP Kondal said that the Khanna police has arrested a total of 59 accused in 26 cases since January 1 this year for possessing illegal weapons. At least 94 weapons, 232 cartridges and 53 magazines have been recovered from them.
