CHANDIGARH: The 19th edition of the All India JP Atray Memorial cricket tournament will be held from September 15 to 25 at the PCA Stadium (Mohali),Sector 16 Cricket Stadium (Chandigarh),Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium,Sector 3 (Panchkula),LIC Cricket Academy,GMHS Sector 26 (Chandigarh),St.John School,Sector 26 (Chandigarh) and Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium (Patiala). The tournament will be played under the a EGIS of Punjab Cricket Association and is the curtain raiser before the start of the domestic season. A total of 16 leading teams from all over the country will take part in the tournament and will be played on league-cum-knockout basis. All the matches will be of 50 overs each innings. The final will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on September 25. Winners will get a cash prize of Rs two lakh along with winner’s trophy while runners up will get Rs one lakh and the trophy. The teams will be divided in four pools and top two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter finals. Mumbai Cricket Association,Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association,Odisha Cricket Association,India Cements Chennai,Indian Oil Corporation,Mumbai,BPCL Mumbai,Air India Delhi,Reliance Industries Mumbai,All India FCI Delhi,MRF Chennai,SBOP Patiala,PCC,PCA Colts and ONGC Delhi are some of the teams likely to figure in the tournament. There will be 31 matches including the finals in this 11-day cricket tournament.
Sangam bowls Saupins School to victory
PANCHKULA: Sangam bowled a lethal spell (4 for 15) to steer Saupins School,Sector 32,Chandigarh,to an easy 77-tun victory over Little Flower Convent School,Sector 14,Panchkula,in a league match of the Under-14 Satluj Champions League cricket tournament being played at Satluj Public School,Sector 4,on Friday. Saupins School batted first and scored 152 for the loss of nine wickets in 30 overs. Satyam remained unbeaten on 39 while Manav (29) and Gaurav (25) chipped in with useful runs. Nehal bagged three wickets for Little Flower. In reply,the Little Flower team were all out for 75 runs. Vivek (22) and Nitin (20) were the notable scorers for the losing team.
Harpreet appointed roller skating coach
CHANDIGARH: Harpreet Singh of Office of the Principal Accountant General (Punjab),has been nominated as Inline skating coach for the forthcoming Inline Hockey men team trial and camp,for their participation in the 15th Asian Roller Skating Championship to be held in China in October later this year. The camp will start from July 28 to August 11 at Yamuna Nagar,Haryana.
Dodgeball meet from July 30
CHANDIGARH: Dodgeball Association of Chandigarh will organise Dev Samaj Dodgeball Trophy for Chandigarh State dodgeball championship (Under-19 & Under-14) for boys & girls at Dev Samaj School,Sector 21,Chandigarh,from July 30 to August 1. All the players have to report for matches at 8.30 am in the school premises on July 30. Players born on or after 1.1.1993 (for Under-19) and 1.1.1998 (for Under 14) are eligible to participate in this championship. They should also bring their I-cards along. The players entry form duly verified by respective principal with father’s name,date of birth,class & section,admission no.,address,phone no.,signature,may be forwarded to Dr. Sumati Kanwar,principal, Dev Samaj School 21,on or before July 28. After the last date of entry,no one will be entertained. Fixtures can be collected on July 29 from the reception of the school after 5 pm.
Cricket trials today
PANCHKULA: Panchkula District Cricket Association will hold trials for the selection of the Under-19 Panchkula District cricket team on July 28 at 3 pm at Hansraj Public School,Sector 6,Panchkula. The team will play its first match on August 3 against Ambala at the JR Institute of Cricket Technology at Panchkula. Players born on or after 01-09-1993 are eligible to participate in the trials. The cricketers shall report to Jaswinder Singh at the venue of trials atleast 15 minutes before the scheduled time to get themselves registered for the trials. No player will be allowed to participate unless he is in proper white kit prescribed for cricket.
