Fifty inmates of Model Jail,Burail, were enrolled for the new batch of the Gandhi Peace Examination on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday.

Copies of the Mahatma’s autobiography ‘My experiments with truth’ were also distributed to the inmates by NGO Yuvsatta.

It is an initiative of the NGO in collaboration with the Chandigarh Prisons Department and Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal which has played an instrumental role in spreading this programme to almost all jails of Maharashtra.

Addressing the inmates,Dr Satinder Dhillon, convenor of Yuvsatta, said: “We must cultivate compassion, understanding, love, and social responsibility within ourselves, families, communities, and the world. We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”

Yuvsatta coordinator Parmod Sharma said the initiative is a step forward to bring jail inmates into the mainstream by giving them an opportunity to read about Mahatma Gandhi, involving them in weekly orientation lectures on Gandhian philosophy and motivating them to participate in an objective type exam at the end of the month-long programme.

Movie screenings of Do Aankhen Barah Haath,Gandhi and Lage Raho Munnabhai were also held on the occasion.
