The Chandigarh Alysh wrestling team returned from Delhi on Monday by emerging overall champions in the Fourth Senior Alysh Wrestling Championship organised by Alysh Wrestling Federation of India in New Delhi from April 9 to 11.
Darshan Lal,an offcial of Chandigarh Alysh Wrestling Association said the Chandigarh team emerged overall champions with 16 points with the help of claiming two gold,one silver and four bronze medals. Bharat Kerasi Jagmeet Singh,a product of Wrestling Coaching Centre,Sector 42,was also adjudged the best wrestler of the Nationals.
Jagmeet took just 1.40 minutes to emerge winner against Maharashtra Kesari Pankaj Gawede in the 120 kg class final. Jagmeet won by taza (fall).
The second gold for Chandigarh was bagged by Parvesh who outpointed Sushil of Uttar Pradesh in the 73 kg final. Deepak got silver for Chandigarh after going down fighting to Pankak of Haryana in the 66 kg bout final.
The bronze medalists for Chandigarh were Deepak (60 kg),Sunil (90 kg),Ravinder (81 kg),and Jagdeep (100 kg). The victorious Chandigarh wrestlers were given a rousing welcome by villagers at village Ishapur (Zirakpur). Jagmeet belongs to this village. The wresterls and officials were taken out in a procession and the villagers of the adjoining area lined up on both sides of the road to cheer Jagmeet and other Chandigarh wreslters. On reaching Ishapur,the wrestlers went to the gurdawara to thank the almighty. Hundreds of villagers,young,old and women,were also present at Jagmeet’s residence to congraulate their star wrestler Jagmeet and his colleagues. The members of the victorious Chandigarh team and officials were honoured at Jagmeet’s residence.
