Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Paramjit Singh Gill on Wednesday said that Pakistans intelligence agency ISI keeps backing anti-national elements to disturb peace in Punjab but they were vigilant enough to thwart any challenge to the law and order situation in the state. He said there were reports that ISI keeps instigating Khalistani as well as Kashmiri terrorists to jointly strike at sensitive places.
Asked if there were efforts to bring Khalistani and Kashmiri terrorists, often called a K2 factor, together,Gill said the way the ISI operates is clear indication that Pakistans agencies tries to ensure their closer coordination. He also highlighted that various gaps on Indo-Pak border, especially in the riverine belts, help the terrorists to sneak in and bring in arms and drugs.
The Border Security Force has been making a tremendous effort to check the loopholes and guard the border, said Gill giving clean chit to the force for any lapses. On the review of blacklist of Sikh NRIs who had been debarred from visiting India,he said the list was prepared by the Centre during terrorism days and it keeps reviewing the same. The list keeps changing with the old names deleted and a few more added and it is entirely the prerogative of the Union Ministry for Home, he said.
Gill inaugurated the new facilities at Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the presence of IG Border Range,Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and Commissioner of Police Amritsar Varinder Kumar. He said the commissionerate system of police was working fine in three cities,Amritsar,Ludhiana and Jalandhar, and they were bringing in more facilities to meodernise the police force. We are working to set up round the clock control centres where any citizen can call for the help and report crime and the police team fully equipped will reach the spot within a few minutes, cordon off the area of the crime and start investigations in a professional way, he said.
Gill also visited Amritsar (Rural) police office and held meeting with the various officials on the issue of drugs, petty crimes and corruption in the police force. When asked he denied that there any political interference in the police force as was being alleged by the opposition parties. There is no political interference in polices functioning,he said. Gill also visited the families of two constables killed in the Gurdaspur encounter with Pak intruders.
DGP Gill virtually gave a clean chit to former Akali MLA from Rajasansi and present chairman of District Planning Board Vir Singh Lopoke, accused in the murder of Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Sadhu Singh two months ago. He said the police had conducted thorough probe and there were no links indicating Lopoke was involved in the crime.
