The Himachal Pradesh government lodged a protest to the Russian Embassy over allegations of harrassment levelled against the state government by Alena Adamkova,curator-cum-executive director,International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT). The government defended its decision not to extend her tenure a decision taken by the trust headed by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
The state government asserted that the decisions regarding the affairs of the trust, constituted under the Indian Trusts Act,were taken by the Board of Trustees.
Manisha Nanda,Principal Secretary (language, art and culture) in her letter to the Embassy of Russian Federation,New Delhi, claimed that the allegations that the government authorities behaved ‘rudely’ and harassed Adamkovas were baseless.
The statement is not only factually incorrect, but also appears to have been created to malign the government. The district administration has acted with utmost restraint keeping in view the friendly Indo-Russian relations, a government spokesperson said.
The IRMT has decided to form an Advisory Committee to execute the Memorandum-of-Understanding signed between International Center of Roerich,Moscow, and IRMT so that the affairs of IRMT are managed properly, the spokesperson said.
