IOB records narrow win

A fine display by their forwards guided Indian Overseas bank to a narrow 3-2 win over Border Security Force in a league match of the 40th SN Vohra All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament being played at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

The match started on an aggressive note as both the teams made some fine attacks in the starting minutes of the match. BSF drew the first blood in the match as Varinder scored the opening goal for the team in the tenth minute of the match. Varinder successfully converted a penalty stroke. Indian Overseas bank forwards then regrouped their energies and made some attacking moves. Their efforts soon paid dividends as Adam scored the equaliser in the 32nd minute of the match. Indian Overseas bank forwards stepped up the tempo and were involved in some fine individual sallies. Rupinder scored the second goal for the team in the 33rd minute of the match to extend the lead for IOB. Rupinder scored the goal through penalty stroke. BSF forwards then made some attacking moves and Satinder scored the equaliser for the team in the 56th minute of the match. Satinder converted a penalty corner. Ratinder scored the winning goal for IOB as IOB scored a 3-2 win.

In another match of the day,Namdhari XI blanked Indian Air Force 4-0. Namdhari XI started the match on an attacking note as Gurdev scored the opening goal for the team in the eighth minute of the match. They stepped up the tempo in the coming minutes of the match and their efforts soon paid dividends. Malak scored the second goal for the team in the 34th minute of the match as Namdhari XI extended the leeway to 2-0. Namdhari XI also dominated the second half as Gurmail scored the third goal for the team in the 66th minute of the match. Harpreet scored the fourth and final goal for the winning team in the 70th minute of the match.
