Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) submitted a memorandum to Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti regarding the non-payment of stipends to MPharmacy students for the last eleven months.
The total sum due on part of the university is Rs 12. 32 lakh,it was claimed.
The memorandum states that students have approached the administration but in vain. Senior INSO leader Sukhdev Kundu demanded immediate action for disposal of stipends to students.
Kundu alleged callousness on part of the university authorities and said it was not paying attention to academic projects and was busy in non-academic and other projects worth lakhs such as constructing a bridge at Students Centre and installing halogen lights in the rose garden and other parks in front of the V-C office.
He further said that the session was ending on July 31 but an amount of Rs 88,000 per student was pending.
Elaborating on other problems,Kundu said the new session was about to begin but the hostels are yet to be repaired, the results have not been declared yet and the surroundings of the Students Centre are extremely unhygienic.
