After Newsline highlighted the poor condition of the old age home in Saketri village,Panchkula,Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Yadav has ordered shifting of the lone inmate to the government-run old age home in Sector 15.
Five of the seven inmates of the old age home run by the Manav Seva Trust had died last year due to lack of medical facilities. Of the two inmates, one reportedly left the home a few days ago.
Earlier,Newsline had reported that inmates of the old age home live amid hunger and squalor, with street dogs for company. In the absence of any transport facility, the caretaker rushes on his cycle to the nearby village to get help in case of emergency.
After a report was submitted by Red Cross secretary Vijyalakshami on the poor condition of the old age home,I have ordered shifting of the only inmate to the government-run old age home in Sector 15, DC Yadav said. The Sector-15 home is run by the Red Cross Society.
Last week, the DC had ordered the Red Cross secretary to inspect the old age home in Saketri and submit a report.
The old age home is in a pathetic condition, lacking even basic facilities like proper bathrooms, food, transport facility and medicines. Prima facie,it seems that the Manav Seva Trust is running the home simply to keep the plot of land from being acquired by the government, the secretary had said.
On Tuesday,Vijyalakshami said,We have received orders from the DC. Soon,we would shift the only inmate from the Saketri old age home.
