Truce or not, for us, war has just begun: victim remembers night it rained drones
Elaborating on the incident, Jaswant says that they were sitting in complete darkness during the blackout when they saw multiple drones flying overhead.

“We had just finished our dinner and were sitting in the verandah when we first heard a thud around 9.30 pm on Friday. Moments later, there was a blast and the verandah was engulfed in fire. Sade layi jung lag chuki hai… koi samjhote ho jaan… par sadi zindagi same nahi rehni. For us, the war has begun… even if some compromises happen… our lives will never be the same,” says 24-year-old Jaswant Singh, his voice trembling, as he lies on a bed at Baghi Hospital in Ferozepur.
Jaswant is one of the three victims of Friday night’s drone attack in Khai Feme Ki, a border village in Ferozepur district.
He suffered injuries on his legs from a sharp object believed to be a part of one of the drones.
While Jaswant seems to be in a stable condition now, the same cannot be said for his parents.
His mother, Sukhwinder Kaur (50), sustained 100% burns, while his father, Lakhwinder Singh (55), suffered 72% burns.
Both have been referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana, in a critical condition.
Unaware of the extent of his parents’ injuries, Jaswant says life will not be the same for them.
“My parents have shifted to the burn department at DMCH and I pray they recover soon. Even if there’s a ceasefire at the border, our lives will not be the same again,” he says, adding that the family owns around 7 acres of agricultural land and also rears cattle.
Elaborating on the incident, Jaswant says that they were sitting in complete darkness during the blackout when they saw multiple drones flying overhead.
“It was unbelievable. I never imagined something would fall directly on us. Our car was parked outside and when the object hit, the fuel tank exploded. My parents got badly injured while trying to extinguish the flames.”
While Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that investigation is underway into the matter, Baghi Hospital MD Dr Kamal Baghi confirmed that Jaswant’s parents are critical.
