Thieves strike at six houses,decamp with LPG cylinders
Thieves struck four houses in Sector 10 last night and decamped with around six gas cylinders. The theft was discovered by residents early morning today who informed the police. A case of theft has been registered against unidentified persons at the Sector-10 police post.
The houses where the thieves struck have their boundary walls facing the main road of Sector 10-15 and 9-10. The residents alleged that the thieves climbed in their backyard from the boundary wall and took away their cylinders. One of the residents,ML Kakkar said that he was awake till 11.30 at night and everything was intact till then. He said that the theft must have occurred between one to three as he discovered that the cylinders were stolen around five. The thieves are believed to have taken away the cylinders in a tempo.
Meanwhile,the police said that it was the handiwork of an old gang as such incidents have been reported in the past from other sectors too. Station house officer,sub-inspector Surjit Singh said that the modus operandi of the thieves was same and that the police was keeping a close watch on the suspects who are suspected to be residents of nearby colonies.
Govt officer violated service rules,says Anil Vij
Haryana BJP Legislature Party Leader Anil Vij has alleged that the Congressisation of government officers is being made in an organised manner in the Ambala district. In a press release issued today,he alleged that at a function organized to mark the celebration of Sadbhawna Divas on the occasion of birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20,all the district officers alongwith their juniors were directed to be present. He further alleged that all officers present in the function were administered oath as was done with the Congress workers at a party function violating All India Service Rules which prohibited the government servants from taking party in any activity or function of any political party. He also alleged that all was being done at the instance of the highly placed Congress leaders.
DAV college teachers urge education dept to pay arrears
A delegation led by the DAV College Teachers Union met the UT Education Department officials and gave a memorandum urging them grant of arrears as per the new pay scale from January 1,2006 to the teaching staff of the aided colleges. The union president Prof Iqbal Preet Kaur,vice president Prof R K Dogra and secretary Charanjit Kaur Sandhu were accompanied by DAV-10 College Principal B C Josan and Prof Ghanshyam Dev (Chandigarh District President of PCCTU).
As per the UT Administrations notification adopting the Punjab pay scales,provision for arrears for the aided colleges was to be included in the revised estimates for 2009-2010.While the government college teachers have already been granted 100 per cent arrears,the teachers of the aided colleges are still awaiting the same. The UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas assured them of his full support. Ajoy Sharma,Director Higher Education immediately assured the delegation that the provision for arrears for the aided colleges shall be included in the revised estimates of the budget and also promised that the teaching staff of the aided colleges shall get 100 percent arrears by the end of this year.
Exhibition van of products prepared by BPL trainees flagged off
Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria today flagged off a Mobile Exhibition Van for products prepared by the BPL trainees who had undergone training in various vocations with different NGOs in the urban colonies of Chandigarh. The exhibition Exploring: Potential and Visibility would showcase the work of below poverty line beneficiaries (BPL) under the Step-Up component of SJSRY in collaboration with out reach activity centre Government Museum and Art Gallery.
Dr Sunkaria said that the exhibition will display work of more than 150 beneficiaries from slums and rehabilitated colonies of city which will include handicraft articles including leather,jute bags,purses,pillow covers,bed covers,sheets,quilts,paintings,soft toys etc. The objective behind organizing such exhibition is to create space,visibility in the city and also to mainstream the BPL community. It will develop in them a sense of understanding of market trends,cost effectiveness,fashion trends and market demands.
MPhil,PhD students can take exam in English,Punjabi
Students appearing for M Phil and PhD entrance tests being conducted by the Punjabi University on September 4,will have the option to attempt their question papers in Punjabi as well as in English. Earlier,these students were permitted to attempt their papers in English language only. Varsitys Dean,Academic Affairs S.S. Tiwana said that this facility would be available in those departments where the medium of instruction is both Punjabi and English.
City institute inks pact with UK college
The Institute of Computer and Finance Executives (ICFe) today announced a tie-up with the UK based-Williams College for Distance Learning Programme in computer accounting. The agreement was today signed by Santosh Mangal,managing director,Nexgen Edusolutions (holding company of ICFe) and Peter Wild,Principal,Williams College in the presence of S Noor Mohammad,Director of Operations,Williams College and Gursimran Singh Oberoi,regional manager-Punjab and Himachal Pradesh,ICFe. The MoU signed was followed by an educational session on scope of computer financing and accounting as a career option.
MCM DAV holds workshop on psychology
Insight – the psychology society of MCM DAV College for Women organized a one-day workshop-Possible selves-in collaboration with Optimizing Development in Emotional and Personality Quotient. Dr Bharti Kapoor,executive director,ODEPQ,conducted the workshop that saw enthusiastic participation of more than 300 students and teachers from various colleges across the city. The participants were made aware of their strengths,threats and opportunities and were taught ways to control their mind in challenging circumstances. The thrust areas of the workshop were SWOT analysis,SILVA MIND Method and Relaxation techniques. The aim of the workshop was to enhance emotional and personality quotient of the students and visualization for success. The focus was also on nurturing their motivation and giving them a peep into practical and applied aspects of psychology.
Bhavan Vidyalaya holds Fanta Fiesta
A student of Shishu Niketan School,Ankita Sharma was crowned Miss Maaza and Sahil Singh from DAV Senior Secondary school,Panchkula,was adjudged Master Maaza in the ongoing Fanta Fiesta 2010. A total of 19 teams participated in the contest held today at Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 15,Panchkula. The judges for the event today were socialite Seema Bhalla,Ritu Kochchar,Founder Director of a Fashion institute in Chandigarh and Pankaj Sharma,a renowned radio jockey. Jeremy,a student of Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,bagged the position of first runner-up and Mohit Pandey,a student of Chaman Lal DAV School,Chandigarh was adjudged second runner-up in boys category. Gauri,a student of Mountview Public School,Zirakpur,was adjudged first runner up and Gunjan Sharma,student of Gurukul school,Sector 20 bagged the second runner up prize in girls category of the event. A qawalli competition shall be organised at DAV college,Sector 10 on Wednesday.
PU holds seminar on Shanti Sena
The Department of Gandhian Studies organised a seminar on Shanti Sena on its foundation day. Dr S S Goindi,the former Director of Gandhi Smark Bhawan,Chandigarh was the key speaker. Dr S S Goindi in his key note address highlighted the historical perspective of Shanti Sena starting from Gandhi and its foundation by Vinoba Bhave on August 23,1957 at Manjeswaram,a boarder village between Karnataka and Kerala. While elaborating its expansion Dr Goindi stressed upon the Role and Contribution of the Youth because the youth of a country has a great power with them and if they can follow the path of non-violence,then everything is possible and in this respect,Dr Goindi advised the students to be Shanti Sainiks to resolve all kinds of Conflicts in the society. A large number of Research Scholars and students interacted with Dr Goindi in this respect.
