Equating Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal with Ahmed Shah Abdali and the British who exploited the country and committing atrocities, leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal during a dharna in Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal’s home turf Gidderbaha on Friday slammed the government for unleashing similar “atrocities” on Congress workers.

“Parkash Singh Badal is no less than the British, who committed atrocities on the likes of Bhagat Singh,” Bhattal said.

“Till the time of Beant Singh, there was no vendetta politics. It was Badal who started it all,” Bhattal alleged, adding that Congress would pay Akali Dal in the same coin and would avenge the atrocities committed on the Congress workers. “This is the promise of Hira Singh Bhattal’s daughter,” Bhattal thundered.

She said beginning of the revenge would commence from Gidderbaha where she said finance minister Manpreet Badal had been “roaming with a tag of being honest” (imaandari da phatta layee phirde).

Speaking on the occasion, senior Congress leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee alleged the state was being run by Badals in a manner as if it was their family affair. Kaypee said government would bring Badals to task after Congress returns to power in state.

Former Congress MLA Raghubir Singh alleged that Manpreet kept his eyes closed after letting loose thieves and thugs in the region.

The successive Congress leaders who spoke on the occasion also targeted a number of police officers accusing them of acting at the whims of Akali leaders. The Congress leaders threatened to teach a lesson to such officers after party’s return to power.

Meanwhile,an unfazed Manpreet Badal said “the beauty of democracy is that it is the people who do the talking”.

“I have been elected by the people four times and with every election my lead has increased. When people vote for me that means they trust me. I leave it to the people to judge my work,” said Manpreet.
