In demand: Entry to Mansa Devi through glass door

State Congress chief Phul Chand Mullana was seen waiting for VIP passes to enter Mansa Devi shrine on the third day of Navratra on Wednesday.

State Congress chief Phul Chand Mullana was seen waiting for VIP passes to enter Mansa Devi shrine on the third day of Navratra on Wednesday. The reason: No passes are left at the office of the Mansa Devi Shrine Board.

While Mullana’s demand for 50 passes was turned down, another recommendation from the deputy commissioner of SAS Nagar was also rejected by the board’s Chief Executive Officer,Dharmpal Dattana. “We do not have passes. They have to wait till for some time. As the demand is rising,we have to get more passes printed,” he said.

From politicians to bureaucrats and even journalists are looking for passes to make a shortcut entry to the temple during Navratra fair. While locals have to wait for hours in queues to enter the temple, for VIPs and their associates,it is only a matter minutes — they can enter the sanctum sanctorum through a glass door. “We have issued 10,000 VIP passes so far,” said Dattana.

For parking of VIP vehicles,a separate facility — just close to the stairs leading into the temple — have been put in place. Other vehicles are being parked quite far from the temple.

As far as VVIPs are concerned, almost every day,the board has to make special arrangements for at least two guests. Panchkula MLA D K Bansal and his wife Anjali visited the shrine on Wednesday. The other visitors were High Court Justice Rajiv Bhalla and his wife Manju.

Justices Parmod Kohli and Alok Singh,Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati,Haryana Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma,Additional Principal Secretary Shiv Raman Gaur and Principal Secretary K K Khandelwal are scheduled to visit the temple in the coming days. Earlier,Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Finance Minister Capt Ajay Yadav had paid obeisance at the shrine.
