An interactive session on Alcoholism and Alcoholics Anonymous was organiaed for the hostel students of Government College for Girls at Sector- 42 by the members of the Alcoholics Anonymous. During the session,it was stated that an important aspect of AA’s rehabilitation programme is that it appears to lift the burden of personal responsibility by helping alcoholics accept that alcoholism like many other problems is bigger than they are .Through mutual help and reassurance they can acquire new sense of purpose and greater mental strength . The Chandigarh AA Chairperson argued that there was need to treat alcoholism as a disease only then one can find means to tackle it. He also highlighted the contribution made by the AA fellowship in giving a new turn to the attitude of the family members of the alcoholics.

Two-day national conference ends at PU
A two-day National Conference on Computing,Communication and Control (3C-2009) was organised by the University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET) at Panjab University concluded on Sunday. The conference was inaugurated by Prof HK Verma,Deputy Director,IIT Roorkee. He highlighted the application and integration of the 3C’s i.e. computing,communication and control specifically for SCADA applications. He emphasised that growth of an institute depends on students,faculty and infrastructure for research and development. The technocrats across the country participated in the conference. The convener of the conference and Director of UIET,Prof Renu Vig,introduced the theme of the conference. Vig emphasised that future engineers need to cope with cross disciplinary applications and rapidly changing technology,the three technologies are interlinked and their integration is essential for development of many products. The conference witnessed talks by experts from both industry and academia. The key note addresses were presented by Prof D T Shahani,IIT Delhi and V K Katyal,Senior DGM,Bharat Electronics Limited. Prof Shahani discussed the development in networking of control systems and advancements from VLSI to PLCs.
