Poor visibility affects air,rail movement
With the onset of fog in the region again,all the flights to and from the city were cancelled today. The status for the flights on Tuesday by different airlines stands to be operational if the weather permits. The movement of trains was also disrupted with morning New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi and Himalayan Queen arriving around 45 minutes late at the Chandigarh railway station. While Paschim Express and Garib Rath were delayed by two hours ,the evening New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi departed from New Delhi two hours late.

Burglars strike at Panchkula house,cash,goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh stolen
PANCHKULA: Thieves decamped with gold and cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a house in Sector 21 here today. The owner of the house,Mohan Lal Aggarwal,had gone to Gurgaon with his wife since January 12. On Sunday night,he got a call from a neighbour who informed him that the lock of the main door was broken. “Yesterday,I got a call from one of my neighbours who told that the lock of the main door of my house was broken. I called up my relatives who stay in Sector 12A and asked them to enquire about the matter. They told me that house had been ransacked,” said Aggarwal. Later in the day,a forensic team also visited the spot and a case was registered by the police.

Youth stabbed in Ramdarbar
A youth,who was on his way home from work,was stabbed by an unidentified person at Ramdarbar on Monday evening. He was identified as 24-year old Sri Ram,a resident of Phase II in Ramdarbar.

Mohali Special Judge promoted
MOHALI: Mohali Additional District-cum-Special Judge J S Klar,who was conducting the trial of several corruption and disproportionate assets cases against several high and mighty persons,especially Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,son Sukhbir Badal and wife Surinder Badal,has been promoted as District and Sessions Judge at Muktsar. In his place,J S Bhatia today took over as new Additional District-cum-Special Judge in Mohali,who would now conduct the trials of the high-profile cases registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. Bhatia has come from Mansa,where also he was working on the same post. January 29 was the next date fixed in the trial of Badals case.

PATIALA: Punjab DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill released a table calendar of forests of Bandhavgarh and Kahna at Madhya Pradesh in Chandigarh on Monday. Kisan rally violence: Another accused surrenders
Four months after protesters of the Bharti Kisan Union and other organisations had laid siege to the city and left as many as 43 policemen injured,another leading protesting member Prem Singh Bangoo surrendered on Monday.

He was remanded to one-day police remand by a local court today. The situation at the roundabout near the Sector-16 cricket stadium had turned violent when protesters went berserk and had thrashed policemen before torching government and private vehicles. The protesters were opposing the Punjab government’s move to privatise the Punjab State Electricity Board.

Mayor reviews development works in city
Mayor Anu Chatrath along with other councillors today reviewed work being executed in ward 1 to 5. She directed the officials concerned to review the work in a time-bound manner and synergising workload in different departments of the Municipal Corporation. The councillors informed the Mayor that work like installation of benches for which request was moved in September last year have still not been installed. The issue of encroachment in Dhanas was also highlighted.

Panchayat polls in Mauli Jagran: Returning officer appointed
The UT State Election Commission has appointed Assistant Estate Officer Hargunjit Kaur as the returning officer in the forthcoming byelection to fill up the vacancy of Panch in Gram Panchayat of Mauli Jagran. Kaur has also been appointed the Electoral Registration Officer for the Gram Panchayat of the village.

Assistant Controller (F&A),Estate Office Jit Singh has been appointed as Assistant Returning Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.

NRHM launches community monitoring programme
A community monitoring programme got under way at the UT Guest House in Chandigarh on Monday. It was inaugurated by Special Secretary Health Ajoy Sharma. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Director Dr Manjit Singh Bains,Medical Officer Health,Dr G Dewan,Professor & Head,School of Public Health,PGIMER,Dr Rajesh Kumar along with various programme officers,representatives of the Department of Rural Development and distinguished faculty of PGIMER were also present during the workshop. The workshop was orgainsed by the NRHM to sensitise as well as orient participants regarding the components of community monitoring and develop awareness about the determinants of health in making the communities aware of their health-related entitlements within NRHM. Dr Bains explained the objectives of the workshop as well as the advantages which the community and the health system shall have after this relationship of mutual understanding and cooperation is built between the people and the public health employees.

Ajoy Sharma appreciated the efforts being undertaken under NRHM to percolate the awareness regarding the rights of the beneficiaries at the grass root level.

Dr Rajesh Kumar presented an elaborate but simplified version of the Community Monitoring System and stressed upon the process to be undertaken for this and the components essential to have an effective monitoring system in place. Raids conducted to check misuse of LPG cylinders for commercial purposes
Ambala: In the wake of the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes such as by dhaba owners,tea stall owners and other establishments,a joint raid was conducted by a raiding team headed by Naib Tehsildar in the Ambala Cantonment on Monday. The raids were conducted at railway station,bus stand and other commercial centres from where more than two dozen cylinder were confiscated which were being used for commercial purposes. The raids were conducted in compliance with orders of the district administration as the region was reeling under an acute shortage of LPG cylinders. The consumers were not getting the supply for 25 to 30 days.
