PSHRC seeks report on pitiable condition of Kharar bus stand
The Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has sought a report from Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand on the pitiable condition of the bus stand in Kharar. Taking cognizance of a complaint filed by human rights activist Arvind Thakur,the PSHRC division bench,comprising chairperson Justice R S Mongia and member Justice Baldev Singh,asked the DC to submit the report by March 4,which was fixed as next date of hearing in the case. In his complaint,Thakur submitted that there were major traffic jams near the bus stand as several buses were parked in a haphazard manner,blocking the flow of vehicular traffic. During the rainy season,the roads are completely damaged and water accumulates in the potholes,making it difficult for the public to pass through, he said.
NSS environment awareness rally inaugurated
Renowned environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal inaugurated the NSS environment awareness rally taken out in collaboration with the Punjab Eco Friendly Association (PEFA) at the University campus on Tuesday. Over 500 teachers and students participated in the rally. Speaking on the occasion,Baba Seechewal insisted on strict implementation of the Pollution Control Act,1974,which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years for polluting river waters with poisonous wastes of industries.
He said,The glaciers being the source of water flowing in our rivers has given us purest possible water and air,but today we have made it so poisonous that we need to carry bottles for drinking water.
Conference on computing at Thapar on Feb 19-20
Thapar University is organising the second IEEE International Conference on Advanced Computing on February 19 and 20. Test for Punjabi University clerks on Feb 20
Punjabi University in Patiala will conduct the English,Punjabi Computer Typing and Word Processing and Data Entry test for the recruitment of clerks and clerks (Data Entry) on February 20 (Saturday) at 10 am. Balwinder Singh Tiwana,coordinator of the Clerical Recruitment Test Cell,said letters to all eligible candidates have already been sent.
