MBA junction held at MCM DAV collegeThe MCM DAV College for Women,Sector 36,Chandigarh,in association with Career Launcher,organised an event called MBA Junction in the college premises on Saturday. Nearly 20 business schools came from all over the country to interact with students and counsel them about the admission process in their respective institutes. Hundreds of students,many along with their parents,visited the venue to gain information about management as a career option and know more about the selection process,fee and placements. The event was well-managed and very beneficial for students. Seminar on non-violence heldGandhian strategy fulfils all the criteria of innovation with the weapons of ahimsa. Innovation means doing things differently to make the impossible possible. Innovative leaders grow a small idea in to a fantastic opportunity. They convert problems into opportunities. They have hindsight,foresight and insight as possessed by Gandhiji. We need convex lens leadership with shared vision as Gandhiji did by bringing people together instead of concave lens leadership which divide people on caste lines. Prize distribution function held at St XaviersPANCHKULA: The annual academic prize distribution at St Xaviers High School,Sector 20,Panchkula,was held on the school premises on Saturday. Apart from distribution of prizes,the day witnessed some thought-provoking issues like a tribute to mothers rendered by students of Class II. Rewards and honours not only bring happiness to their recipients but also serve as an impetus to those who genuinely work hard. The event began with the principal of the school,George Shear,welcoming the management and the guests and reading the annual report. Prizes were bestowed upon students in various categories including academic,sports,dance,creative skills,young achievers,said the spokesperson of the school. Internet vans to help students in the periphery of cityThe Education department will soon provide Internet services to school students in the periphery. The project will be handled by IIT Roorkee,which has roped in the Punjab Engineering College University of Technology for the purpose. Under the project,initiated by the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development,vans equipped with around 20 laptops will visit schools in the periphery. Talking to Newsline about the project,a senior faculty member from IIT Roorkee said: The basic idea behind the project is to give Internet access to these students so that they are exposed to what happening around them. The Internet will also broaden their areas of knowledge and prove beneficial for them in the long run. To assess the need of the project,the department is conducting a survey in various schools wherein a need analysis questionnaire will record different facilities available in the school like number of computers,phone connection,etc. PU professor to join foreign languages varsityDr Pushpinder Syal,faculty member of the Department of English,Panjab University,has been appointed Director at the English and Foreign Languages University,Lucknow campus. After putting in of 31 years of service at PU,she has proceeded on a two-year extraordinary leave to join the campus in Lucknow. Syal continues to remain employed with the Panjab University and will join back after two years on completing her tenure.
