Film director pays for stay,UT not to initiate criminal action
The UT Administration and film director Jatin Dev appear to have reached a compromise,as the UT has decided not to pursue criminal action against Dev,who allegedly failed to make a payment of Rs 1.62 lakh for staying at the UT guesthouse. Dev had been frequenting Chandigarh for the last three months in connection with a documentary he is making on the city. A senior official of the UT Administration said Dev paid Rs 1 lakh on Thursday and sought 15 days’ time to clear the remaining dues. Thus,the Administration has decided not to pursue any criminal action against him. “The matter is settled now. He sent his aide to us who made the payment of Rs 1 lakh. He has asked for 15 days to clear all dues,which we granted him,” said a senior UT official

Thapar University in ‘fest’ive mood
PATIALA:
Aranya ‘09,the three-day techno-management fest being hosted by Thapar University in Patiala,kicked off on Thursday on a colourful note. The campus was abuzz with students gearing up for their respective events. Workshops and orientations were also held. The fest has already registered more than 800 outstation students and heavy participation is expected in the coming days. In the evening,students danced to the tunes of Punjabi singer Diljeet. After his scintillating performance,DJ Sanjh doled out some rocking numbers.

Science show at St John’s School
A wide range of science projects,models and presentations on themes like green energy,climate change,robotics,optics,magnetism were displayed on the first day of the two-day Science Mega Show at St John’s High School on Thursday. Principal Kavita C Das said: “The interest and creativity shown by students has been exceptional. The exhibition reflects the hi-fi technology that will prevail in the future.”

PGI hosts pre-conference workshops
Three pre-conference workshops of the International Paediatric Neurology and Epilepsy conference were held at PGI on Thursday. The three-day conference begins at the institute on Friday. The first workshop on paediatric epilepsy and electroencephalography was conducted by Dr A Prasad from Canada. The other faculties for this workshop were Dr N Desai from Mumbai and Dr V Murugan from the UK. The workshop on neurodevelopmental issues was conducted by Dr Prahbhjot Malhi,in which she highlighted issues of normal and abnormal childhood development including autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders. The last workshop dealt with neurometabolic and neurogenetic disorders and was conducted by Dr C Prasad from Canada,Dr S Zuberi from the UK and Dr M Kabra from Delhi.
