All-win day for Kochhar
Sandeep Kochhar continued with his fine form as he stormed into the quarter-finals of the snooker category in the on-going 9th Saurabh Khattar Memorial Billiards and Snooker Championship held at Chandigarh Club on Tuesday. He won the best of 5-frames against MS Judge by a margin of 3-1 in a pre-quarter match. In the second round match he had blanked Vineet Khosla 2-0. In another second round match,Saurav Nayyar outplayed Chirag Jain 2-0,while Aman Bhasin also routed Ajay Singla 2-0. In a pre-quarter billiards match,Pankaj Gulati secured a 150-75 win over Umesh Bhandari. Meanwhile,in the first match of the Champion of Champions Snooker Trophy,Sandeep Kochhar outclassed Saurav nayyar 3-1 to register his third win of the day.
Panchkula Chess from May 13
The Chess Association of Panchkula is organising Open Chess Championship at St Teresa Conven School,Sector 25 here on May 13 and 14. The Dodgeball Association of Chandigarh will be conducting the trials to select the Chandigarh dodgeball teams (Boys and Girls) at Shishu Niketan Model Sr. Sec. School,Sector 22-D,Chandigarh on May 14 at 5.00 pm. Selected teams will participate in the 6th Senior National Dodgeball Championship which is scheduled to be held at Bhillai,District Durg,Chhattishgarh from June 6 to 8.The interested players should get in touch with Dr. B. Rowing tourney on the anvil
The Chandigarh Rowing Association has postponed the Chandigarh State Sub-Junior and Challenger Rowing Championship for Men and Women at the Lake Club by one day. The championship will now be held on May 16 at 6:30 a.m instead of May 15. The change has been made on the basis of the request from most of the rowers,who are busy in their school/college examinations. Competitions will be conducted in single sculls (open for men and women),double sculls (open for men and women),coxless pairs (open for men and women)and coxless fours (open for men and women). Entries close with Parmod Kumar Singla,secretary,Chandigarh Rowing Association or Arvind Sehgal,rowing coach on h May 15 at 6:00 p.m All oars boys/ oars girls born on or after 1-1-1995 are eligible for the sub-juniors in the championship.
Carrom tourney from May 14
The 13th St Stephens Carrom Ranking Tournament will be organised by the Chandigarh Carrom Association from May 14 to 16 at St. Stephens School,in Sector 45 here. Competitions will be held in singles for seniors,juniors and sub-junior,men ,womens and girls. For participation in the junior (below 18 years) and sub-junior category (below 14 years),the player shall be born on or after 31.12. 1992 and 31.10.1996,respectively.
