Road mishap claims one life; 45 injured
One person died and around 45 passengers were injured after a speeding bus veered off the road near Talwandi Aklian village on Friday around 11 am. The bus was on its way from Dabwali to Mansa. Jaurkian SHO Karamjit Singh said the deceased was identified as Gurmeet Singh of Jaga Ram Tirath village. The injured were admitted to different hospitals.
Capts book release turns out to be show of strength
The function to mark the release of The Last Sunset,by former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh turned out to be a show of strength of the Congress party leaders as they struggled to show their loyalty to the leader. The function was organised by sitting Congress MLA O P Soni where industrialists,businessmen,academicians,university and college professors had been invited. But Congress leaders turned out in large numbers at the hotel where the event was held late on Thursday evening. Captain said the book was an account of the years following Maharaja Singhs demsie in 1839 in Punjab when the Sikh power fell to the English and Lahore Darbar witnessed the worst hobnobbing and plotting that led to the weakening of the military and administrative power of the state. He also announced that he will not write any book on Punjabs terrorism anytime soon.
Sandhu appointed member of National Coordination Committee
Prof Dr Jaspal Sandhu,Dean Faculty of Sports Medicine of the Guru Nanak Dev University has been appointed as the member of the National Coordination Committee. This committee will setup state-of-the-art sports sciences centre throughout India,with the help of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,Government of India.
