Talib lifts sub-junior national chess title
Chandigarh: Mohammad Talib of St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,lifted the national title in the boys’ sub-junior category during the 38th Sub-Junior National and Inter-State Carrom Championship held at Prabhat Day Boarding School,Washim Road,Akola (Maharashtra) from October 18 to 23. Meanwhile,Chandigarh bagged the first position in boys’ sub-junior team championship.

Swimmer Sahiljit brings laurels to DAV-15
Chandigarh: Sahiljit Singh Butalia once again brought laurels to DAV Model School,Sector 15,Chandigarh,when he finished at the podium in three categories in the recently concluded North Zone CBSE Swimming Championship for Under-19. He won gold in 50 metre,100 metre and 200 metre races in Breast-stroke category. The 16-year-old’s mesmerising performances has landed him a spot in the North Zone swimming team that shall take part in the All India CBSE Swimming Championship to be held in Jaipur from October 29 to November 2. It may be recalled that Sahiljit had previously won three gold medals in the UT Inter-School Swimming Competitions.

Jimmy scores in India U-14 win over IMG
Chandigarh: City lad Jimmy was on target when he scored a goal in Indian U-14 team’s 8-1 win over IMG Under-14 in a practice match played at Bradenton,Florida (USA) on Sunday. Diory was the top scorer for the Indian team with four goals to his credit,while Uttam Rai netted a brilliant hat-trick. The 16-member Indian U-14 team are training at IMG Soccer Academy at Florida for nine months. A joint venture by Reliance Industries Limited and IMG,the academy aims to develop,market and manage sports in India with their partnership with the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Football tournament from October 29
Chandigarh: Saupin’s School,Sector 32,will organise 4th RF Saupin’s Football Running Trophy,an inter-school football tournament,on October 29 and 30 at the school premises. Schools from the Tricity are eligible to take part in the tournament. Participating teams should report at the venue at 8:30 am. Interested schools can enroll their names for the tournament at the school.

Cricket tourney from October 31
Panchkula: Hansraj Cricket Academy,Sector 6,will organise First Under-10 Inter Academy League-cum-Knockout Basis Cricket Tournament from October 31 at Hansraj Public School cricket ground,Sector 6. All the matches shall be 25 overs per innings. There would be award for man of the match,best batsman,best bowler,best all-rounder,best fielder,best wicket-keeper. Further information can be collected from coach Jai Kapila (mobile 9814212773) before October 27. All the matches shall be played on Saturday,Sunday and gazetted holidays.
