It has many firsts to its credit the first hotel in Chandigarh,the first to introduce a bakery,the first to establish the concept of exhibition halls and a 24-hour coffee shop… At Aroma,some things remain constant high quality food and service and thats precisely the secret of their success. For us,this is not business,but a passion with service being our motto and no compromise on quality, Yashpal Singh Kohli puts it simply.
Going back in time,Kohli recalls how it all began way back in the early 50s when Chandigarh was conceptualised. The Kohli brothers came to the city to bid for Kiran Cinema,but the bid went very high and they opted out of it. There and then they were told to bid for a hotel site,and finally got it for Rs 65,000 on October 21,1953! The other contender was the Maharaja of Faridkot. The advertisement said it was an Indian hotel site and the plot was CP 22.
It was one of the first commercial sites in Chandigarh and soon after,plans were prepared and operations began in April 1955 with the white stately building bearing a unique look and character,one that sets it apart from other hotels, Kohli adds.
Thirty-three rooms is what they began with,and now the new centrally air-conditioned building adjoining the hotel is ready to welcome more visitors with brand new 22 rooms. Besides traditional Indian food,Aroma now offers a range of cuisines to cater to all tastes,with food festivals,live cooking,and traditional food promotions being a regular attraction.
There was no background in hospitality,but honesty,hard work,high service levels,constant innovation and experimentation have made Aroma what it is today, Yashpal believes moving with the times is imperative,yet never compromising on values and integrity is paramount.
