Minister Vs CM

Union minister Virbhadra Singh fails to miss any opportunity to hit out at Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Director General of Police D S Manhas, the two he holds responsible for the corruption case against him. He arrived in Dharamsala last week and took a dig at the state agencies — both the civil administration and the police — for “maligning” Karmapa, not toeing the Government of India line. Within hours,Dhumal retaliated as the Union Ministry of Home was quick to assure him not to worry much about the minister’s remarks.

Karmapa,err UTD

Many will not be able to understand as to what does ‘UTD’ stand for. But those in the state,or the Central government agencies tracking developments at Dharamsala involving Ugyen Trinley Dorje, the 17th Karmapa, have a fair idea about the acronym — it is Ugyen Trinley Dorje (UTD). The officials are expected to write UTD,and not Karmapa,in all official communications. The other Karmapa,Trinley Thaye Dorje, who does not have recognition of the Dalai Lama is addressed as TTD.

Better late than never

A senior Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) officer, one of the seven inducted in the state IAS cadre last week, sounded not in a happy mood as greetings started pouring in. He reciprocated with laddoos, but without revealing his feelings. “To tell you honestly, our promotions were cleared by the UGC in 2009,but this remained caught up in legal tangles. Nevertheless, many people thought I am already in the IAS. That’s why it now sounds a bit embarrassing to acknowledge the fresh greetings,” he said later.
